Profile
Andrea York is a Partner in the Labour & Employment and Privacy Groups. She represents employers in wrongful dismissal litigation, employment standards disputes, human rights complaints, mediations and alternative forms of dispute resolution. Her practice also includes working with employers in the preparation of employment contracts, policies and termination agreements, and generally providing advice in respect of all aspects of the employment relationship.
Andrea works closely with employers and counsel providing advice in respect of both employment and privacy issues that arise in the context of commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, dispositions, reorganizations and outsourcing.
Andrea's privacy law practice includes assisting organizations in compliance matters involving the application of privacy and data protection legislation, responding to privacy-related complaints, and drafting and implementing privacy policies. She is also the Firm's Acting Privacy Officer.
Andrea has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, all levels of the Ontario courts, the Human Rights Tribunal, as well as a variety of other administrative tribunals. She regularly conducts management training seminars on employment law, human rights and privacy-related topics. She has participated as a speaker, panellist and moderator in various conferences focusing on employment law, human rights and privacy.
Andrea has been Co-chair of the Firm's Equity & Diversity Committee since 2007. In each of 2008, 2009 and 2010, Blakes was named as one of "Canada's Best Diversity Employers" by Mediacorp Canada Inc.
