A Commitment to Meaningful Action
Blakes has long prioritized equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), ensuring these values are embedded in every aspect of our Firm. Our efforts are guided by the lived experiences of our people and a shared commitment to driving progress in the legal industry.
Some of the ways we continue to make an impact include:
- Fostering Community Through Affinity Groups: Pride@Blakes, Women@Blakes, Black@Blakes, EastAsian@Blakes and SouthAsian@Blakes create spaces for mentorship, leadership and discussion on key EDI issues. The Firm is also looking forward to the launch of new affinity groups in 2025, further expanding spaces for connection, advocacy and personal growth.
- Expanding Access to Opportunities: Our internship programs, including those with the Avenue Black and Indigenous Undergraduate Law Internship program and our Diversity & Inclusion and Indigenous Pre-Law Internship programs, provide students from underrepresented communities with hands-on experience in a business law setting.

- Driving Inclusive Leadership: We empower our professionals with tailored EDI training and firm-wide initiatives to foster a culture of inclusion at all levels. Additionally, through mentorship, pro bono work and community partnerships, we strive to create opportunities for diverse talent and contribute to a more equitable legal profession.
