Blakes Congratulates Recipients and Finalists of 2024 Canadian Law Awards

Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes) congratulates our clients and all of the teams whose work on some of Canada’s most complex legal matters took the spotlight at the Canadian Law Awards 2024. Among the finalists were deals and cases involving 12 of our clients, including Pembina Pipeline Corporation, whose C$1.28-billion offering of subscription receipts secured Capital Markets Deal of the Year.

Now in its fifth edition, the Canadian Law Awards features multiple Deal of the Year categories and an award for Commercial Litigation Team of the Year.

  • Repsol Oil & Gas Inc.’s restructuring (GWL Realty Advisors Inc. and Brookfield Properties)

M&A Deal of the Year

  • Strathcona Resources’ C$8.6-billion acquisition of Pipestone Energy Corp. (Strathcona Resources Ltd.)

  • TotalEnergies’ C$5.5-billion sale of its Canadian oil and gas assets (Suncor Energy Inc.)

Commercial Litigation Team of the Year

  • Petty v. Niantic Inc. at the British Columbia Court of Appeal (Warner Bros. companies)

  • Workman Optometry Professional Corporation et al. v. Certas Home and Auto Insurance Company et al. at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company)

The Canadian Law Awards are presented annually by Key Media. Nominees were selected from hundreds of submissions from firms and legal departments nationwide. An audited, independent judging panel reviewed the nominations and scored them against strict criteria.
