Winner of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers Award for Seventh Time

March 28, 2017

Blakes is pleased to announce that we have been named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for 2017 — an honour the Firm has received seven times since 2008 and more than any other law firm.

“Winning this award once again validates our commitment to diversity and inclusion,” said Brock Gibson, Chair of the Firm. “Diversity is essential to the success of Blakes and is fundamental to reflecting the needs of our clients in Canada and around the globe.”

This recognition by Mediacorp is in addition to naming Blakes one of “Greater Toronto’s Top Employers” in December 2016, which we have won nine times (2007-2012 and 2015-2017).

“Employers that ensure their workforces reflect the community have an advantage,” says Kristina Leung, senior editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project, which manages the competition. “These organizations benefit from a wider range of perspectives, which inevitably brings new and innovative ideas.”

The Canada’s Best Diversity Employers competition is now in its 10th year. Winners are selected based on submissions to Canada’s Top 100 Employers. The competition recognizes successful diversity initiatives in a variety of areas, including programs for employees from five groups: women; members of visible minorities; persons with disabilities; Aboriginal Peoples; and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender/Transsexual (LGBT) Peoples.

The winners were announced in a special magazine published in The Globe and Mail.

Blakes is committed to maintaining an inclusive work environment comprised of people with diverse perspectives, backgrounds, identities and cultures. Along with our many internal programs and committees, such as the Blakes Diversity & Inclusion Committee, the Blakes Diversity Network, Women@Blakes and Pride@Blakes, we also hold regular seminars for clients on subjects related to diversity and inclusion, and continue to support a number of ongoing initiatives.
