Blakes Goes Global to Deliver Legal Innovation

November 25, 2016

Blake, Cassels and Graydon LLP (Blakes) has announced a worldwide search for a solution to benefit the Firm’s clients by improving the practice of law in business settings.

The Global Legal Innovation Challenge will ask legal technology developers across the world to develop a solution that keeps businesses updated on relevant legislative and regulatory changes.

It was officially launched on Thursday at the Blakes Innovation Forum, an event held at MaRS in Toronto that focused on how technology and innovation are reshaping the business world.

“This is an exciting step forward for a Canadian law firm,” said Rob Granatstein, Managing Partner at Blakes. “We believe that reaching out to the best legal technology developers worldwide will result in a solution that delivers clarity from complexity and adds real value for our clients.”

Blakes will partner with LegalX, the legal technology cluster at MaRS, to deliver the Challenge. LegalX will assist with mentoring and introductions to their global network.

“We’re looking to find a solution that uses technology to deliver clear, comprehensive and timely reporting on important changes to laws, regulations and rules,” said Carla Swansburg, Director of Practice Innovation, Pricing & Knowledge Services at Blakes. “The end result could make a real difference to the practice of law.”

The Challenge will open for entries in February 2017.
