MONTRÉAL, February 5, 2024 – Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes or the Firm), Canada’s top business law firm, is pleased to announce that Louis Morisset, outgoing president and chief executive officer of the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), is joining the Firm as Strategic Counsel at the Firm’s Montréal office.
Louis worked for over 17 years at the AMF, the regulatory and supervisory body of Quebec’s financial sector, first as superintendent of securities markets, then as head of the organization for 10 years. Prior to joining the AMF, Louis practised corporate law for nearly 10 years at another major Canadian law firm, where he developed in-depth expertise in securities, corporate finance, and public and private mergers and acquisitions.
“Over the course of his career, Louis has developed remarkable skills in a variety of related areas, from corporate finance to governance, including with respect to major public policy issues affecting the financial sector. His expertise enhances our service offering, notably in the securities and financial services sectors. Louis will advise the Firm’s clients on complex business transactions, governance and public policy matters, as well as high-stakes regulatory and disciplinary issues.

Throughout his career, Louis has served on the board of directors of several organizations, including the International Organization of Securities Commissions. He also served as chair of the Canadian Securities Administrators for over seven years and has been a member of the Quebec Bar since 1996. In addition, Louis is an adjunct professor in the department of finance at HEC Montréal.
