Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes) is pleased to announce that Partner Terri-Lee Oleniuk has been appointed Chair of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) National Environmental, Energy and Resources Law Section (NEERLS). Terri-Lee is a leading lawyer in this field, specializing in regulatory, environmental and Indigenous law issues in the development of natural-resource projects. Her term as Chair begins in September 2023.
Representing some 36,000 legal professionals from across Canada, the CBA’s goal is to connect lawyers and potential members to the people, knowledge and skills they need to help them successfully practise law in Canada. NEERLS focuses on legal reform, legal education and management in its areas of law.
Terri-Lee is currently Vice-Chair of NEERLS’s executive, has served as the section’s professional development officer, communications officer and co-chaired its summit in 2021 and 2023. Terri-Lee is also active in other legal and business organizations, including as a former member of the Law Society of Alberta's Practice Foundations Lawyer Competence Advisory Committee, a board member of the Canadian Renewable Energy Association and the Canadian Energy Law Foundation and an independent director of an Alberta-based private power company.
At Blakes, Terri-Lee leads the Energy Regulatory group in Calgary and chairs the Calgary Women@Blakes initiative. She was named a Lexpert Rising Star: Leading Lawyers Under 40 in 2016 and made Benchmark Canada’s 40 & Under List in 2019. She is also continually recognized in publications such as Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business, The Legal 500 Canada, The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and The Best Lawyers in Canada.
