Communications & Content Specialist

Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), one of Canada’s largest and most successful law firms, has an opening for an experienced Communications & Content Specialist to join the Client Relations & Marketing department in the Toronto office. 

The Communications & Content Specialist develops top-quality content and works closely with the Director, Firm Marketing Communications & PR and various stakeholders across the Firm to implement best practices for maintaining the unique and consistent Blakes voice in written communications.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Developing thought leadership communications that support the Firm’s business development efforts. This involves planning and researching innovative content (e.g., articles, Q&As and social media posts) for delivery to clients through various channels, including Blakes.com and other websites, while ensuring brand alignment.
  • Producing “Five Under 5” articles, episodes of the Blakes Sound Business podcast and similar communications products, aligning content and priorities with broader Firm strategic messaging and editorial priorities.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Firm’s brand and style guide by editing and proofreading marketing communications (e.g., ads, web and social media copy, invitations, product sheets, brochures, reports and more) for correctness and consistency.
  • Assisting with the development and execution of editorial strategies and content calendars.
  • Updating and posting recent experience matters on the Firm’s website.
  • Serving as the main contact and resource person for lawyer bios on the Firm website; reviewing, drafting and updating bios when needed; and working with Information Technology to develop and enhance the profile database.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • A post-secondary degree in English, journalism, communications or marketing is required
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in writing, editing or a related role
  • Experience in the legal industry is an asset

  • Strong research and fact-checking skills
  • Ability to identify process improvements and socialize solutions with internal stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Understanding of web publishing, including experience with content management systems
