Financial Accountant
Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), one of Canada’s largest and most successful law firms, is currently looking for a Financial Accountant to join the Financial Reporting team. We welcome applicants from Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.
Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, and working directly with the Director, Financial Analysis, the Financial Accountant will prepare and analyze the Firm’s financial results and performance to support decision-making across the partnership with a view to positively impacting results.
Primary responsibilities associated with this position include:
- Assisting with month-end close process, including preparing journal entries, bank and other reconciliations, accruals, expense analysis, and reallocations
- Assisting in monitoring and analyzing financial results to identify trends and variances and provide timely insight to management
- Assisting in compiling financial reports and statements in compliance with government regulations and requirements
- Supporting cash management functions
- Monitoring and responding to requests from the general Finance inbox, including uploading journal entries and preparing reports to assist with financial or client analysis
- Preparing monthly and other periodic sales tax returns
- Assisting with interim and year-end financial statement audit
- Analyzing and preparing annual budget for assigned departments and cost centres
- Documenting and recommending any workflow improvements (e.g., internal controls, process efficiencies, systems improvements)
- Collaborating and participating in projects and initiatives or ad-hoc analysis, including implementation of new processes and systems
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in business or accounting, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Minimum of two years of relevant work experience in a similar role
- Experience within a finance department of a service firm with exposure to financial reporting is preferred
- Pursuing CPA (is considered an asset)
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong financial analysis skills, including high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge with financial modeling tools (VBA, and SQL) is considered an asset
- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity, creativity and an analytical mindset
- Ability to manage cross-functional priorities and meet established deadlines
- Strong work ethic and desire to learn and improve
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High level of professionalism and maturity along with strong interpersonal skills
- Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks
