About Aqeel

Aqeel practises corporate and commercial law with a focus on mergers and acquisitions. He has assisted clients on various matters and transactions, including corporate mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, purchase and sale transactions, and asset acquisitions and dispositions.

Aqeel's practice is complemented by four years of oil and gas industry experience where he managed corporate and legal matters for companies in the United States of America, Canada, Indonesia and Singapore. Aqeel has served as a director for private corporations and publicly listed companies trading on the TSX Venture Exchange (TSX-V) and the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).

Representative matters in which Aqeel has been involved include representing:

  • Suncor Energy Inc. on its C$1.468-billion acquisition of TotalEnergies EP Canada Ltd., which holds a 31.23% working interest in the Fort Hills oil sands mining project

  • Suncor Energy Inc. on its C$688-million acquisition of an additional 14.65% working interest in the Fort Hills Project from Teck Resources Limited

  • A private equity firm in the renegotiation of project agreements in connection with an C$11.2-billion equity investment

  • A Canadian midstream company in connection with a joint venture to merge western Canadian natural gas processing assets

  • An energy company in its US$307-million strategic business combination with a publicly traded oil and gas company

  • A private equity firm in its US$250-million investment in a Canadian renewable energy company

  • A private equity firm in its US$10.25-million Series A financing in a Canadian entity

  • An international renewable energy company in its C$741-million acquisition of a Canadian renewable energy company

  • An investor in their C$155-million strategic business combination with a Canadian oil and gas company

  • A Canadian energy company in its C$23.6-billion agreement to create a new integrated energy leader

  • An international energy company in its C$510-million acquisition of oil and gas assets in British Columbia from a TSX-listed oil and gas company

  • A Canadian midstream energy company in its C$500-million acquisition of natural gas infrastructure assets in Saskatchewan from a Canadian oil and gas company

  • A private equity firm and investment manager in their joint acquisition of equity interest from an energy infrastructure company in a C$6.8-billion pipeline project

  • A midstream energy company in connection with an approximately C$1.3-billion agreement with a TSX-listed midstream energy company to build an NGL and condensate pipeline system
