About Chris

Chris is a seasoned corporate restructuring and insolvency lawyer, trusted by clients for his ability to navigate complex multi-party insolvency matters and high-stakes debt restructurings. He regularly advises secured creditors, court-appointed officers and debtor companies, offering strategic guidance on both domestic and cross-border matters, including distressed M&A, debt enforcement, and debtor-in-possession (DIP) financings.

In addition to his insolvency practice, Chris has extensive experience in managing construction lien litigation and advises lenders, contractors, property owners and other industry participants in resolving construction disputes.

Having served as general counsel at a venture capital company, Chris offers a unique perspective on the legal challenges faced by businesses, with firsthand insight into the client's viewpoint. His time as general counsel included structuring start-up acquisitions, bridge financing, and advising on regulatory, marketing and privacy matters.

Chris's approach is informed by a deep understanding of the business pressures his clients face, and he tailors his legal advice to meet both their immediate and long-term needs.

  • The board of directors in the Aleafia Health CCAA proceedings (cannabis)

  • The purchaser of substantially all of the assets of FIGR Brands in FIGR’s CCAA proceedings (cannabis)

  • The receiver, interim receiver, proposal trustee and trustee in bankruptcy in the Allied Track Services insolvency proceedings (construction)

Professional Activities

Chris is a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada, a limited-number, invitation-only association of Canada's most accomplished senior insolvency professionals. In addition, he regularly guest-lectures at University of Toronto Faculty of Law regarding enforcement of personal property security, regularly guest-lectures on insolvency at the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Law and the University of Windsor Faculty of Law, and was adjunct faculty at Osgoode Hall Law School from 2010–2014, where he taught a seminar on remedies for breach of contract.
