About Daniel

Daniel's practice encompasses all aspects of commercial real estate, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, development and financing. He is regularly consulted by both foreign and domestic real estate investors and represents several banks/financial institutions and borrowers on real estate financing transactions.

Daniel also acts for clients in the renewable energy and hospitality industries and has experience with developing, buying, selling and financing renewable energy projects (including solar and wind farms) and hotels.

He has particular expertise advising his clients on real estate issues relating to bankruptcies, insolvencies and mortgage enforcement remedies.

Daniel has a working knowledge of French, German, and Russian.

Select Experience

Recent transactions representative of Daniel's practice include:

  • Acting for a major Canadian pension fund manager on its acquisition of the Downsview Airport property in Toronto, totalling approximately 370 acres, from Bombardier Inc.

  • Renewable Energy Trust, as Canadian counsel, in connection with the sale of its North American solar portfolio to Axium Infrastructure consisting of 84 MW comprised of eight solar generating projects (three in Ontario, two in California and three in Georgia)

  • Oxford Properties Group in relation to the sale of a 50% interest in a 4.2 million square foot portfolio of high-quality office properties in downtown Toronto and Calgary to Canada Pension Plan Investment Board for C$1.175-billion

  • Various banks, financial institutions and borrowers on mortgage financing transactions

  • TD Securities, Bank of Montreal and CIBC in regards to financing a C$430-million acquisition of 14 commercial properties in Atlantic Canada by Slate Office REIT, its affiliates and an institutional real estate investor, from Fortis Properties Corporation

  • BluEarth Renewables Inc. in relation to the acquisition, construction financing, operation and maintenance of various solar and wind power projects

  • Clients of BentallGreenOak on their acquisition and disposition of various retail/shopping centres, office buildings and industrial properties located in Ontario and across Canada

  • Capstone Infrastructure Corporation and certain of its subsidiaries on credit arrangements, in respect of C$83-million credit facilities provided to Cardinal Power of Canada, L.P. to refinance its 156 MW natural-gas cogeneration facility

  • Renewable Energy Trust in connection with its acquisition of the equity interests in 10 MW solar generating projects in Ontario from Canadian Solar

  • Ontario Pension Board on the C$300-million purchase of an undivided 50% interest in the RBC Centre, a 41-storey class AAA office tower in downtown Toronto, Ontario

  • Mitsui & Co. Ltd. in the completion of its equity investment in the 680 MW Canadian renewable energy portfolio of GDF Suez.

  • WestLB AG, senior secured creditor, and Alvarez & Marsal, as court-appointed receiver, in the insolvency and subsequent sale of The Rosseau, a luxury condominium hotel, conference centre and spa, and Canada's first JW Marriott Resort and Spa

  • The Government of Canada on the sale and leaseback of seven federal office properties located across Canada comprising approximately 3.4 million square feet of prime office space

  • Various local, regional, national and international landlords and tenants on the leasing of industrial, office and retail properties
