About Jenna

Jenna has a broad commercial litigation practice with experience in securities litigation, privacy, cybersecurity, constitutional and class action matters. She has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia, and regularly represents clients in hearings and regulatory investigations before securities commissions in British Columbia, Ontario, Alberta, and the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization.

As a member of the Firm's Public Sector Crisis & Compliance group, she helps clients navigate high-stakes legal issues, including government investigations, public inquiries, constitutional matters, and rules surrounding elections and lobbying. She is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/C) and advises clients on a broad range of privacy issues.

Prior to joining Blakes, Jenna spent a decade working in the public markets, writing extensively about public companies, and a summer working at a global Chinese law firm in Hong Kong.

Jenna’s litigation and regulatory experience includes the following:

Securities Litigation

  • Successfully appealing a decision of the BC Securities Commission, refusing to stay a proceeding for abuse of process

  • Successfully having allegations of misrepresentation dismissed following a four-day liability hearing before the BC Securities Commission

  • Representing public companies, directors, officers, and shareholders in corporate disputes

  • Representing dealers and advisers in regulatory interviews relating to allegations of tipping, insider trading and failure to know your client

  • Participating in securities class action defense teams

  • Acting for Pembina Pipeline Corporation before the Securities Commission to defend its break fee and challenge the use of a total return swap by Brookfield Infrastructure Corporation Exchange Limited in the context of a hostile bid made by Brookfield for Inter Pipeline Ltd. and a white knight bid by Pembina

  • Successfully representing an institutional shareholder in connection with a contested plan of arrangement

Public Sector Crisis & Compliance

  • Preparing clients to testify before Parliamentary committees or public inquiries

  • Defending clients before regulators relating to lobbying and elections

Privacy and Cybersecurity

  • Acting for organizations before various privacy commissioners

  • Advising clients companies of their privacy obligations, including how prepare and respond to cybersecurity incidents

  • Assisting companies and public bodies in making or responding to information requests

Professional Activities

Jenna is a member of the Young Advocates' Standing Committee, a national committee of The Advocates' Society devoted to promoting the interests and development of young lawyers. She is also a member of the Vancouver chapter of the Women's White Collar Defense Association and the International Association of Privacy Professionals. She has a Certificate in mining law and sustainability from the University of British Columbia (2021).
