About Andrew

Andrew has a broad commercial litigation and dispute resolution practice with a focus on complex commercial arbitration matters and construction and infrastructure disputes. He has experience representing clients in a range of industries, including construction, infrastructure, energy, mining, forestry, real estate, hospitality, cannabis and technology. Andrew has also acted for clients in the defence of product liability claims and class proceedings.

Andrew has appeared as counsel before domestic and international arbitral tribunals, and at all levels of court in British Columbia. Prior to joining Blakes, Andrew completed a one-year clerkship for six justices of the Supreme Court of British Columbia.

Andrew's recent experience includes acting as counsel to:

  • An owner in defending a C$1.25-billion ICC arbitration claim regarding construction of energy infrastructure, including defending an ICC Emergency Measures Application

  • An owner in respect of a C$1-billion ICC arbitration claim regarding pipeline construction

  • A forest products company in an ad hoc arbitration regarding wood product pricing

  • A luxury hotel group in ad hoc international arbitration involving disputes under a hotel management agreement

  • Lyft, in defeating an injunction application which would have prohibited Lyft from operating in British Columbia, and defeating the subsequent application for judicial review of Lyft's passenger transportation licence

  • The Silver Star Resort Association, in defeating a judicial review application that challenged the existence of the Association, which had been created by ministerial order

  • An LCIA arbitration between Canadian, Bermudian and Czech entities involving dispute over the sale of mining assets in Mongolia

  • The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators as intervenors before the Supreme Court of Canada in Uber v. Heller

  • A contractor in a C$100-million arbitration claim regarding the construction of a high- voltage transmission line

  • Leading pharmaceutical manufacturers with respect to product liability, consumer protection and labelling/marketing class actions

  • Various clients in respect of urgent construction and infrastructure issues such as lien claims, project disruptions and bond claims

Professional Activities

Andrew is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Vancouver Bar Association and The Advocates' Society. He serves as a regional representative for North America for the ICC Young Arbitration and ADR Forum.
