About Matias
Matias joined Blakes as a student in 2022. He holds a degree in civil law from the University of Ottawa and a juris doctor from the Université de Montréal.
During his legal studies, Matias received several awards and distinctions for his academic achievements and his volunteer and charitable work. He also distinguished himself in the Laskin Moot Court Competition in constitutional and administrative law, where he was named among the moot’s top 10 oralists. In addition, Matias worked as a research and teaching assistant for four professors and contributed to the work of the Canada Research Chair on Legal Diversity and Indigenous Peoples.
From 2023 to 2024, Matias clerked for Justices Roger R. Lafrenière and Richard Mosley at the Federal Court. He assisted them with complex matters relating to national security, intellectual property, administrative, constitutional, Aboriginal, language, public, tax, immigration and refugee law.
At the moot court competition organized by the law clerks of the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal, he was awarded the prize for best litigant and, along with his teammate, the prize for the best defendant’s memorandum.
