About Richard

Richard’s litigation practice focuses on intellectual property (IP) matters, including patent, trademark and copyright disputes. Richard often litigates complex pharmaceutical patent matters, including those brought under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations. He has expertise in proceedings before the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal. Richard also provides clients with strategic legal advice pertaining to IP.

Before joining Blakes, Richard was an IP litigation associate and completed his articles at an international law firm.

Awards & Recognition

While completing his undergrad, Richard received the following grant to study geometric algebra and modeling through 3D printing:

  • Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Undergraduate Student Research Award – 2016
Professional Activities

Richard served as a student editor on Carswell's Intellectual Property Journal and participated in the Harold G. Fox Intellectual Property Moot while completing his JD at Osgoode Hall Law School. He also served as president of the university's student union.

He is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario Bar Association and the Canadian Bar Association.
