About David

David's practice focuses primarily on mergers and acquisitions, private equity and corporate law, providing strategic advice on many of Canada's largest and most complex asset and share transactions.

David has over 25 years of experience advising clients on complex regulated transactions. He also regularly advises foreign companies on establishing and structuring their Canadian investments and operations. His experience includes structuring and negotiating various domestic and cross-border commercial arrangements, including joint venture, shareholder, partnership and commercial agreements.

Blakes is continuously recognized as having the leading corporate practice in Canada. David formerly served as the Practice Group Leader of the Corporate & Commercial group in Toronto. He also leads the Firm's Automotive group. He is recognized as a leading corporate lawyer in major legal publications such as Chambers, Lexpert, The Best Lawyers in Canada, The Legal 500 and IFLR1000.

Professional Activities

David is actively involved in mentoring and is a past Co-chair of the Blakes Legal Personnel Committee.

David is committed to participating in legal education. He often leads seminars and lectures on several facets of business law. He recently gave a guest lecture on mergers & acquisitions at Osgoode Hall Law School and also spoke on a panel at an Association of Corporate Counsel meeting on cross-border mergers & acquisitions.
