About Kate

Kate is the co-lead of our Fund Formation practice group and works with both investors and sponsors on raising and investing in funds. She has acted for numerous clients on fund investments, direct investments and co-investments. The investments have been in numerous industry sectors, including real estate, infrastructure, private equity, energy, transition energy and private debt.

Kate has also advised many clients on environmental, social and governance issues (ESG) particularly on the new regulations, changes in the market and assisting with reporting obligations.   

When she is not working on funds or ESG, Kate has assisted large Canadian, U.S. and European corporations on M&A, commercial issues, joint ventures, shareholders agreements, divestments and financing issues.

Kate also has significant experience in the not-for-profit industry. In addition to serving on boards, she has assisted clients with many not-for-profit transactions including reorganizations and dissolutions.

Kate practised in the Firm's London, England office for two years. She also practised at an international law firm in Paris, France.

Kate is from Montréal, Quebec, and is fluent in French.

  • Investments by HOOPP in its European development portfolio

  • Investments by various pension funds in different fund investments

  • Co-investments by various pension funds domestically and internationally including in real estate, professional services, private equity and infrastructure

  • Direct investments by various pension funds domestically and internationally including in private equity and real estate

  • Reorganization of several pension fund structures

Selected M&A transactions on which Kate has advised:

  • Sale by HOOPP of a portfolio of real estate assets in Germany

  • Sale by a large automotive company of a division

  • Sale by an affiliate of Syngenta AG of an agribusiness division

  • Investments by a number of pension plans in a transfer from a fund to a REIT

Professional Activities

Kate is a frequent speaker at the M&A Subcommittee panels at the IBA.

She is a board member of Right To Play International and chair of the Governance and Nominating Committee.  Right To Play is a charity which uses play based learning to support and encourage disadvantaged children around the world.

She is the current chair of the board of directors of Lex Mundi, a network of international law firms.
