About Patrick

Patrick's practice includes complex commercial and civil litigation, government and regulatory investigations, compliance and administrative law cases.

Patrick advises national and multinational clients in the context of investigations and enforcement matters, regulatory compliance issues, government procurement matters and other public-sector laws, such as lobbying, gifting rules, conflict of interest regimes and access to information disclosures. He also assists clients with investigations and recovery efforts relating to fraud, cyberattacks and data breaches matters.   

Patrick advises clients operating in highly regulated industries, including banking and financial services, aviation and rail transportation, life sciences, medical technologies, gaming, construction, real estate and international trade.

Prior to joining Blakes, Patrick developed solid professional experience within the federal government, notably with the Canada Border Services Agency. His academic path led him to pursue his studies in Tunisia, at the University of Tunis El Manar, as well as conduct research in Lebanon in association with the University of Balamand.

Patrick is fluent in French and in English.

Select Experience

Recent representative matters include:

  • Defended the interests of a major developer and operator of destination resorts against various multimillion-dollar suits relating to alleged construction deficiencies and defects and alleged damages suffered by a guest at one of the client's resorts

  • Advised and represented the interests of a developer against various multimillion-dollar suits alleging construction deficiencies and defects

  • Defended a multinational construction material manufacturer in a multimillion-dollar claim alleging misrepresentations and product defects

  • Defended a Canadian bank against various claims from customers alleging fault in handling the commercial accounts of its clients

  • Provided advice in connection with various challenges of customs related enforcement measures, including customs duties, valuation and classification, as well as seizures under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act

  • Advised a multinational credit card company on various legal issues involving the Quebec Consumer Protection Act

  • Part of the team that advised a major energy infrastructure company in its regulatory applications before the National Energy Board and other matters before the Régie de l'énergie and the Federal Court

  • Advised a major manufacturer of chemical products in a dispute involving a municipality, an energy infrastructure company and a transportation services company regarding real estate issues

Professional Activities

Patrick is a member of the Young Leaders Forum of The International Economic Forum of the Americas.

He is also a member of various committees of the Montréal office, including the Recruitment Committee (since 2017), the Business Development Committee (since 2017) and the Associates Committee (since 2020).
